Barbados and St. Lucia are islands in the Caribbean about 100 miles apart. Because of their warm climates and beaches, both islands are vacation destinations for sun-seeking North Americans and Europeans. The two islands have very different characters: Barbados has a highly developed economy and educational system, and St. Lucia's economy is mostly dependent on tourism; Barbados is rather flat, and St. Lucia is extremely mountainous, with foliage-covered, nearly vertical peaks. Travel between the two islands is relatively easy, with ferries and regular flights.
